The Nextel cell phones provide a unique service to the cellular world. Its claim to fame is its ability to direct connect to all Iden customers throughout US, Canada, Mexico and parts of South America.
It operates the same way any two way radio does in that you have to operate a PPT (push to talk) button to communicate with it in the direct connect mode. With this feature, when you contact a fellow Iden user there is no long distance calls involved
The big advantage of using this product is that you will save a great amount of money if you talk to the same people a lot over large distances where you would normally have long distance charges.
Each phone has to numbers assigned to them. One is for regular cell phone use and the other is your private ID which is use to contact other Iden users.
The brand used for these Nextel phones is Motorola. Various models that have been used are from the old legacy model i500 to the newer sim chip equip i530, i830 and the newly release camera version the i860
Some of these Nextel cell phones have been build to a military spec to handle the dust, shock and in some case water resistance. The current models are the I58sr, i305 and the i530 flip model.
