Well that is, as we say stretching the truth a little for cellular phone reception in these areas. That small patch that you place on the back of the cell phone near your antenna seems to only provide one to two more bars of service not from no bars to full service. But on the other side these antenna patches may provide enough service gain in a difficult area to be able to make calls. There are a couple of other ways to increase the reception of your cell phone, the only draw back is that these methods are mostly used in a vehicles application though I supposed they could be used in a stationary situation but defiantly not as you walk around..
The first one is right on your cellular phone. Most manufactures have provided a port on the back of the cell phone to plug in an external antenna. Makers such as Audiovox, Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, LG, Panasonic and others have provided these ports for this purpose. The biggest problem seems to be finding the proper connection cable in order to hook up the cellular phone to an external antenna.
